5 Perspectives Your Soul Has On Life

Each one of us is a kaleidoscope of perception, and every part of our being has a perspective. Imagine you can merge with the perspective of your body, and notice how alert it actually is, silently monitoring all of its internal functions, constantly scanning the environment for sensory information. Now imagine merging with the perspective of your mind, always identifying and sorting data, creatively putting information together and taking it apart. Now imagine sharing the perspective of your emotions in all of their seemingly random waves. Life doesn’t just look different, it *is* different when we see from these different points of view.

Now imagine merging with the perspective of your soul. Could you do it? Did you get stuck wondering just what kind of perspective that would be? The soul’s perspective is one that is sadly ignored, yet is so desperately needed in this world to help us heal, transform, and evolve into our collective destiny. On a more personal level, the soul’s perspective is what we are seeking when we feel lost, when trying to discover what we are meant to do with our lives, and when we need profound insight in order to arrive at elegant solutions. So, while imagining yourself merged with your soul’s perspective is actually the best way to experience it, here are five perspectives of the soul that can help get you started:

  1. You are Eternal, and Eternally Evolving

It’s pretty common to hear about  “old souls”, those people who are wise beyond their years and have a depth to them that is almost otherworldly. You may have even heard of “young souls”, or people who are naive and may have a hard time understanding life. While there is a kernel of truth to this, the soul is best understood as existing beyond time and space, or rather, the soul is inclusive of all time and space, and intimately knows all things within itself.

From the perspective of your soul, you remember being born In the Beginning, birthed along with every star and planet and element. You see every desire, every wish, every dream as a potential future you are connected to, as close as breath. As the soul, you know that every experience has power and purpose, and that every choice you make as a human will change and shape you as much as the Cosmos itself. From a human perspective, there is no end to this choosing, this desiring, this evolving. From the soul’s perspective, you can always choose again, and you can make better choices the more you know about yourself and your eternal legacy of creative choices.

2.  Everything You Need and Want is Available through Alignment, Attunement, and Communion

Since your soul remembers how this whole Cosmos got started, and has helped shape it’s entire physical development in order to create you, it’s not a stretch to say that it knows how create anything it needs and wants. As humans, our souls express themselves in three primary ways: the Deep Soul, the Personal Soul, and the Higher Soul. All three of the expressions of the soul need to be in alignment in order for a desire or an intention to manifest in the material world. The Personal Soul consciously chooses an intention, clarifies and focuses on it, while the Deep Soul fills it with emotion, with feeling, making it real to your body, your senses, your inner experience. Once the intention is chosen and enfleshed (even ensouled) with emotion and imagination, it is sent to the Higher Soul, which coordinates the Cosmos and all it’s beings to help manifest this intention, in alignment with your destiny and the destinies of others. This is called attunement, when the soul, aligned in its expressions, harmonizes with another being, an experience, a desire.

Attunement brings you into greater resonance with whatever you are attuning to. When I do a soul session with someone, I attune to their energy and their soul in order to experience what it’s like to be them, and see things from another perspective. I’m manifesting their experience, in my experience, with the intention of helping them. You can attune to someone you want to understand better, to an ideal situation, to a quality or state of being. When your soul is aligned and you attune to something, you bring that something into greater resonance with your being, which is the basis of all manifestation. This is also the basis of spiritual healing and helping people manifest their best, most authentic selves when you are attuned to them. Attunement can help as well with finding the best, “just-right” feeling of how you want your intention to manifest; a subtle conversation between you and the experience of your intention that is ideal for everyone.

When attunement goes beyond resonance, beyond harmonizing with something else, into a direct experience of unity and a dissolving of separateness, it becomes communion. While communion is certainly a process the soul engages in to create and manifest, it is really only experienced in a state of pure, true love that manifests mystical states, profound transformation, and initiation of the greater powers of the soul. Practicing communion can be as simple as aligning your soul, attuning to the experience of unity and wholeness, and from that state communing with everything in your experience. It can also be as esoteric as communing with a spirit guide. In every case, communion is a sacred experience that is often described as “being one with all things.” It’s a reminder, a glimpse, of who you are on a Cosmic scale.

It’s truly an elegant process that your soul has used for countless lifetimes to give you all the resources and experiences you need to live your destiny.

3.  Living your Destiny is the Only Thing You Truly Want

Your eternal soul, fluent with the powers of creation, has manifested every life it has ever experienced for one reason: the fulfillment of destiny. What is destiny? Destiny is the place that your heart’s desire and the desire of the Cosmos meet. It is the fulfillment of personal joy and service to the world, and it doesn’t have to be socially acceptable or financially lucrative to be authentic. It can certainly include those things, but ultimately, the soul sees beyond social convention and contemporary attitudes. It is eternal, after all. People sometimes get nervous when I tell them that their destiny isn’t necessarily about being rich or popular, but I can assure you that what you want and who you want be, at a very deep, authentic level, is the greatest guide to your destiny you have. Are you naturally attracted to art and creative expression? Do you just love animals? Do you feel great when you get to really use your intellect and come up with precise solutions? Whether or not you think you are good at these things, or if you can make money from them, if you brighten up and feel naturally excited about these things, then they are absolutely part of fulfilling your destiny.

So many people ignore the call of their souls to their destiny because it doesn’t fit the modern mold of what seems practical and successful. They ignore the desire to write, for example, and trudge through the “sensible” path of working at a job that drains them, in a never-ending cycle of not-enough-money, waiting for the day to come where they have finally “arrived” and gotten the social approval they think they need, so that they can finally do…do what? Do something…something they can’t quite remember. Their intuition may quietly remind them of writing, but it’s reflexively shelved as an impractical, and probably self-indulgent impulse from a less realistic, less responsible, more naive part of them. Then they come to people like me for help, desperate to remember what their soul has never forgotten, and the only thing they ever truly wanted in the first place.

It doesn’t have to be a New York Times best seller, or a masterpiece of a painting, or a flawless song, or a record deal, or a fat paycheck, or validation from the people in your life in order for it to be your destiny, or in order for you to fulfill it. In fact, your destiny can be lived in every moment of your life when you experience life knowing you are your soul. Your destiny is to be who you came here to be, truly, and authentically. Living your destiny is the source of true fulfillment.

4. More than Anything Else, Your Soul Wants to Be Here, on Earth, in this Life, as You

Most of you reading this probably have experience with spiritual practices, and probably have some experience with manifesting intentions and desires. Even if you don’t have those experiences, have you ever wished for something that then happened? Or maybe you made a vision board for something specific, like a house or a job, and you then actually received that house or job? Remember how excited, elated, and grateful you felt? Like you were the luckiest person in the world? That’s how your soul feels about your human life, all the time. Granted, there are plenty of choices we make in life that our soul would have us reconsider, but it never loses the memory of why you here, as you, at this time. Because of this knowing, our soul always perceives the divine purpose that we are destined to fulfill, and is our source of hope and guidance when we feel like we’ve lost our way.

Our souls are not static, though, meaning that they develop and grow, but also that they can become fractured, injured, and dislocated. How can an eternal, powerful soul possibly be harmed, you ask? Our souls are shaped by our human lives, and by every single choice we make in these lives. Some of those choices were made because we were in danger, or experiencing trauma, or even out of true ignorance of what we were doing at the time, and these choices can cause parts of our soul to weaken or retreat completely. Often these choices were our only choices at the time, and may have even saved our life. They may have even been the best choices at the time, but now, at this time, they prevent you from choosing more of your soul, or to more fully live your destiny. This isn’t your soul abandoning you, however. It’s that you’ve made choices in your mind, heart, and body that the soul cannot exist in, and it leaves to preserve itself and the memory of your destiny, so that once you are ready to embody it again it can return and bring with it your passion for being. The practice of soul retrieval, or re-membering your soul, brings these soul-parts back into the present so that you can know, feel, and embody them once again.

Ultimately, no matter what choices you make, no matter how lost you feel, no matter how far gone you might think yourself to be, your soul remembers who you really are, and why you, as the soul, wanted to be here, as you, more than anything else in the Cosmos. Though it may be affected by our human lives, it is more than possible for it to heal, and to heal our lives, in turn.

5. Your Soul Includes Everything

Your soul is an expression of the Living Cosmos, and you are the embodiment of your soul in this world. You are the Cosmos being you, I am the Cosmos being Trece, and my cat is the Cosmos being a fur-baby. My coffee cup is the Cosmos being a mug! Think about a circle with a point in the center, and you can get a feel for how we can be both so vast and so specific. Our soul is like the circle, encompassing all things, and it also specifically focused in our human awareness, which is like the point in the center of the circle. Though we are a singular point, every other point on the edge of the circle can be connected to it, and through it, with an endless number of connections. The All is in the Small. We are one of infinite fulcrums that the Cosmos is balanced upon, and we affect the Cosmos and all within it by our choices, as much as we are also affected by the choices of others.

What this doesn’t mean, however, is that we have to be all things to all people, or avoid our humanness, or lose our sense of self. While our souls include everything, they include it so they can create specific path, a rhythm, a destiny, in concert with all the other destinies of the Cosmos, and live it through you as a human being. So when you don’t know what choice to make, or what your purpose is, or how you can change some facet of your life, your soul knows exactly how to answer those questions in a way that is in alignment with your destiny, and in harmony with the destinies of others. The answers the soul gives come through the three ways your soul manifests everything we talked about above: alignment, attunement, and communion. These processes can be observed by the mind, and even initiated by the mind through intention, but the role of the mind in listening to your soul is, well, to listen, to observe, to ask appropriate questions and to receive the response without judgement. The soul is not a “logical” part of our being, and it’s answers can even be confusing to a mind that is stuck in its own rigid logic. The soul is best understood through the heart, the seat of the soul in our bodies, and it is through our heart’s capacity for true empathy that we personally know that we are included in all things, and they within us.

I hope these five perspectives have helped you not only know, but feel your soul with more clarity, more intimacy, more joy. Everything we seek in life really comes back to our souls, to feel included and at home in the Cosmos, to express who we really are with power and grace, to know in our bellies that we are here with purpose and gifts the world has been asking for. It can be so hard to remember, and it’s such a relief when we do.
